Easyjet or Ryanair, which is better?

Easyjet and Ryanair are both low-cost airlines. A low-cost airline means charging for extras like food, priority boarding, choosing a seat, and baggage etc. This makes the price for the flight much cheaper than ordinary airlines. The two most popular low-cost airlines are Easyjet and Ryanair, but which one is better?
In 2010, Ryanair had 72,600,000 passengers and Easyjet had only 48,800,000 passengers. In comparison, British Airways, a normal airline, had 31,800,000 passengers, lower than both.
What passengers hate the most are delays, so who had the most? In 2010, Easyjet had an average of 25 minutes delays and 12% of them were longer than an hour. Ryanair had an average of 12 minutes delays and only 3% were more than an hour.
Now let’s talk about those annoying extra charges. If you are a family flying with Ryanair you could be charged 50€ just for booking the flight. On the other hand, Easyjet charges 7€ booking and another 7€ for credit card transactions.
A typical flight one way from London to Berlin including one piece of checked-in baggage adds up to 130€, but the same flight with Easyjet costs 75€.
The last comparison between these low-cost airlines is the location. Easyjet is located at most central airports, it’s easy to get to and easy to arrive at your destination. Ryanair terminals are at out-of-the-way airports. Just the transportation to terminals outside the city can be quite expensive.
In my opinion, both have some pros and cons, but I personally would choose Easyjet, because of the price and location.

  1. I agree that Ryanair is a bit of a rip off! they hook you on lower prices and all of a sudden when you finish the booking, you're paying almost the same as in a conventional airline.

    good grammar and vocabulary!

  2. In the last years there some airlines that compete in prices have appeared. Bárbara exposes two examples (Easyjet and Ryanair) and does a very interesting comparison between them. Furthermore these companies exist more (Clickair, Vueling...) that give a very similar service and it might do a comparison between all.

I believe that the companies of low cost are a great advance for the traffic of people around the world, since thus people who before couldn’t travel, now they can travel cheaper and visit new cultures and new countries.

Nonetheless, I believe that the companies low-cost are more expensive than they seem, since if you pass of the weight of the suitcase or something out of normal the price increases very much.

  3. I think this article is very interesting because we all have had our own experiences with low cost airlines. I´m sure most of those experiences are bad. The airlines charge for everything and anything possible. From your luggage to printing a boarding pass. Even after you have bought your ticket you still have to pay for transportation from the city to the airport, in the case of Ryanair, where they tell you the airport is Barcelona but in reality it´s either Girona or Reus, both of which are quite far. You spend most of your time travelling to and from the airport rather than enjoying your vacation. EasyJet is located in El Prat which does make it easier but the planes are so uncomfortable and the rush to get a good seat is like being in a zoo. I prefer paying a little more for an airline such as Vueling and enjoy the ease and comfort of travelling without long journeys or paying extra for things that should be free.

  4. I really liked this post because I had never travelled with Easyjet before and know I can say that it could be better than flying with Ryanair.
Before knowing all this things, I had always flight with Ryanair because I consider that they have great offers as long as you are aware of their web and their special offers!
I even have some friends that had booked some flights for only few cents! I don’t know how they do it but I think that this is amazing! It is true that Ryanair terminals are at out-of-the-way airports but if you have access of this kind of “very low price flight”, this don’t really matter.
But, from now on, I will also look at Easyjet flights before booking anything.
    Bárbara thanks for this information!

  5. It is an interesting post. I always look for offers in Ryanair, and also I travel a lot with this company . I never had any problem with Ryanair and I found a lot of good offers, but I know that the people is not so happy with them.
The people talk better of Easyjet than Ryanair, and also Barbara has exposed that Easyjet have some more advantages than Ryanair, but why have Ryanair more passengers? is because Ryanair born before? or maybe the publicity is better?
I didn’t know the information that Bàrbara provided us with about Easyjet, but now knowing this, before buying the ticket I’m going to compare this tow companies and see which is better.
